From the September 4, 1994 edition of The New Castle Record
Twelve-year-old seventh grader Candace Casen, won the first place Purple Ribbon in the Northwest District 4-H contest in the vocal talent division for the third year in a row. Until she is 14 years old, she will not be able to compete in the state or national competitions.
The 4-H has recognized her talent, however, as she was chosen to represent Virginia talent at the National 4-H Agents Conference when she entertained 13,200 agents at the opening ceremony in Norfolk.
Candace has won first place in every talent contest in Virginia that she could enter. She has had clips on Blue Ridge TV, Cox Cable, and Channel 10 called her a “future American Idol.” Radio K-92 invited her to be the guest celebrity talent at last year’s Vinton Dogwood Festival, where they called her a “future Christina Aguilera.”
She has sung at the Roanoke Civic Center, Hotel Roanoke, Holiday Inn, and Roanoke area clubs. Her summer calendar is already filling: she has been invited to FloydFest; and she will return to Craig’s annual Heritage Day festivities.
We congratulate Candace on her first place award.
