The Craig County volleyball team will be back on the court for two matches this week. Craig was scheduled to host Bland County Monday and travel to Bath County on Thursday.
The Rockets come into the week at 1-9 after dropping two Pioneer District matches last week. They played host to Parry McCluer and lost in four, 25-14, 25-13, 22-25 and 25-22.
“This was a tough loss,” said coach Suzanne Crawford. “The team started out slow, but by the third game they picked up the pace and played their game. A special shoutout to Raelynn Stamper, who was pulled up to varsity due to being short on players and did an amazing job.”
Annika Zimmerman had five kills and five blocks for the Rockets. Annalese Zimmerman had four kills and 15 digs. Natalie Fisher dished out 14 assists and served up two aces. Mia Beller had three aces, Ally Calfee had three blocks and two kills and Stamper had three kills in her varsity debut.
The Rockets were at Eastern Montgomery last Thursday and lost in three, 25-11, 25-10 and 25-14.
“This was another challenging game,” said Crawford. “Lately in practice, we have been focusing on our fundamentals, specifically correcting our passing technique and improving our serving form.”
Annika Zimmerman had four kills and two blocks against the Mustangs. Fisher had seven assists, Addisyn Higgins had two kills and Laikan May had 15 digs.
“With more practice time as we head into the second half of our season, I believe things will pick up, and we will execute more wins moving forward,” said Crawford. “The players are focused and giving everything in practice.”
