Craig County freshman twins Thomas and Ryan Boyer qualified for the Class 1C golf sub-region tournament, scheduled for this week at the Great Oaks Course in Floyd County.
The nine-hole course “The Hill” in Blacksburg was the site of the Pioneer District tournament last Wednesday. Eastern Montgomery won the team championship with a score of 375 followed by Bath County at 384, Narrows at 396 and Craig at 459.
“It was fifty degrees, rainy and windy so there weren’t many good scores,” said Craig coach Geoff Boyer.
East Mont and Bath qualified for this week’s sub-region as teams. The top four individuals not on those teams also qualified and that was Thomas Boyer with a 99, Ryan Boyer at even 100 and two Narrows golfers. Aticus Stauffer of Bath was the medalist. He tied Gray Lawson of East Mont with 92 each, then Stauffer won a playoff to earn the title of Pioneer District champion.
This week the top two teams in the sub-region as well as the top two scores not on those teams will advance to the Region 1C tournament. That will also be held at Great Oaks next Monday, Oct. 5.
