A patriotic quilt celebrating America’s 250th anniversary will be raffled during the upcoming Fall Festival on Oct. 10, with proceeds benefiting improvements to the local VFW Post.
The quilt was donated to the VFW Post by Christopher Devinney, who spent more than a year creating the 102-by-83-inch quilt in honor of his veteran family members. Devinney’s grandfather, Earl F. Devinney Sr., served in the Army in Europe during World War II, while his father, Earl F. Devinney Jr., served during the Vietnam War era.
Sandi Curd also contributed her quilting skills to the project. Devinney symbolically completed the quilt on July 4.
Devinney and his family presented the quilt to the VFW Post during its August meeting. He asked that the Post raffle the quilt as a fundraiser during the Fall Festival, with proceeds going toward improvements to the Post building.
The VFW Post, a charitable nonprofit organization, operates through donations and fundraising. The building, constructed in 1981, is in need of major improvements, including kitchen renovations, painting and restroom upgrades to make the facilities accessible to people with disabilities.
Raffle tickets are $5 each or three for $10. The drawing will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Winners do not need to be present to win.
Organizers said they are grateful for the donation and the support it represents for the Post and its efforts to improve its facilities.
