The Rocket golfers pose for a team shot at “The Hill” last week. Left to right are Aubrey Keffer, Cam Hanes, Ryan Boyer, Coach Geoff Boyer, Thomas Boyer, Coleton Wolfe and Easton Wright.

The Craig County golf team had its last regular season match last Wednesday, Sept. 2, at “The Hill” in Blacksburg. For the first time all season Craig had six golfers in the field.

Ryan Boyer led Craig with a 45, which tied for second overall behind Aticus Stauffer of Bath County who was one stroke better than Ryan at 44. Thomas Boyer was next for the Rockets with a 57, tied for 12th on the day. Easton Wright and Cam Hanes rounded out the scoring with 59 and 60 respectively, and both were personal best scores. Coleton Wolfe shot 63 and Aubrey Keffer had a 67.

“Easton broke 60 for the first time and Cam didn’t lose a single ball,” said Craig coach Geoff Boyer. “Aubrey had the longest putt of the day, making a 40 footer for a bogey on a par three.”

The Rockets are now off until September 23 when the Pioneer District Tournament will be held at “The Hill.” It will be an 18-hole match with the golfers going around the nine-hole course twice.

“It’s been a great season,” said coach Boyer. “It’s been a nice environment and we have 10 who want to play in the spring.”
