The public is invited to celebrate International Observe the Moon Night from 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Craig County Field of Dreams in New Castle.
The free event is sponsored by Preserve Craig and will offer visitors an opportunity to observe and learn about the moon, planets and other celestial objects.
International Observe the Moon Night is a worldwide public event designed to encourage observation, appreciation and understanding of the moon and its connection to space science, exploration and human culture. The annual event brings together scientists, educators and lunar enthusiasts around the world.
This year’s event will highlight new lunar observations made by the four astronauts of the Artemis II crew in April.
The Roanoke Valley Astronomical Society will attend with telescopes and provide visitors with a guided tour of the moon, planets and other celestial objects.
International Observe the Moon Night is sponsored by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission and the Solar System Exploration Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, along with numerous contributors.
The event will be held at the Field of Dreams, 200 Old Rail Road, New Castle.
Preserve Craig is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation formed in 1991. Its mission includes preserving and protecting natural, historical and cultural resources; conducting research and compiling and publishing information about those resources; and conducting public education programs.
