Residents along the former Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Craig Valley Branch railbed in Botetourt and Craig counties may notice continued maintenance work along the former rail line.
The work is intended to prevent further deterioration of the railbed and assist designers developing plans for the Craig Botetourt Scenic Trail.
The Virginia Department of Transportation continues to conduct site visits and field reviews along the railbed as design plans for the trail are refined.
Ongoing maintenance activities, including extensive stabilization work, were expected to be completed by summer 2026. The trail project is scheduled to begin by the end of 2026, with completion anticipated in fall 2028.
