The Craig County School Board approved two resolutions Aug. 11 related to the school division’s fiscal year 2026-27 budget and technology improvements.
The board approved a resolution amending the FY 2026-27 budget to recognize $437,598 in carryover funds from the 2025-26 fiscal year.
Of that amount, $165,960 had already been included in the adopted 2026-27 operating budget.
The resolution appropriated an additional $142,039 to provide the local match required for the Generator Project. The remaining $128,599 in carryover funds was appropriated to the School Capital Improvement Fund as undesignated capital reserve funds.
The total transfer from the general fund was listed at $270,638, with $142,039 designated for Operations and Maintenance capital outlay and $128,599 designated for the School Capital Improvement Fund.
The board also approved Resolution R2027-02, declaring its intent to reimburse Craig County Public Schools for certain capital expenditures using proceeds from one or more grants from the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The resolution applies to expenditures associated with a capital project and states that the division expects to reimburse those expenditures with grant proceeds. The maximum cost of the project is expected to be $122,400.
The project description identifies five eligible technology categories: classroom multimedia network computers, internet-ready local area network capability, adequate high-speed and high-bandwidth capability, instructional software and handheld devices.
The reimbursement resolution states that expenditures may be reimbursed with grant proceeds and establishes requirements for making the reimbursement allocation within specified time limits.
Both resolutions were adopted by the school board.

The Craig County School Board approved the 2026-27 Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee during its regular monthly meeting Aug. 11.
The committee includes representatives from Craig County Public Schools, local agriculture and business interests, higher education, workforce development, parents and students.
The 2026-27 committee members are:
Annalese Zimmerman, student representative
Shelly Snider, parent representative
Mary Hunter, farm/producer and Craig County Farm Bureau representative
John Hunter, farm/producer and Craig County Farm Bureau representative
LeAnn Mattax, Young Farmers’ chair and Craig County Farm Bureau representative
Elaina Wolfe-Carper, representing individuals out of school, homeless and/or at-risk youth
Justin VanDyke, business owner and community member
David Dunstan, principal for Craig County Middle and High schools
Emily Nolen, CTE agriculture teacher
Rebecca Cox, CTE culinary arts teacher
Geoff Boyer, high school teacher representative
John McLaughlin, Virginia Western Community College and local community college representative
Morgan Romeo, Workforce Development Council representative
Assistant Superintendent Gerri VanDyke will serve in an advisory capacity to the committee.
The committee provides community and industry representation in support of the school division’s career and technical education programs.
