to last week’s match at the Homestead.

The Craig County golf team had their first match in eight years last week and it turned out to be a big success. The Rockets finished third in a Pioneer District match at the historic Homestead course, hosted by Bath County.
“It was a great day,” said Craig coach Geoff Boyer. “We had perfect weather with temperatures in the upper 70s and a little breeze. They had a ribbon cutting and someone sang the national anthem. They really did it up right, and our kids played well.”
The four Pioneer District matches are all nine holes and host Bath shot the low score, posting an even 200. Narrows was second at 205, Craig shot a team score of 226 and Eastern Montgomery, the 2025 district champion, came in at 239.
Freshman Ryan Boyer led the Rockets with a 47, tying for low round among the boys in the field. Narrows had a girl who shot 42 from the forward tees.
Ryan’s twin brother Thomas Boyer was next with a 49, good for fourth place among 23 golfers. Coleton Wolfe was 17th with a 64 and Easton Wright was one spot behind him in 18th with a 66.
“It was only the third time Coleton had been on a golf course, and both Coleton and Easton beat someone in their group,” said coach Boyer. “As you can imagine the kids were a little nervous teeing off with about 100 people watching.”
The match was held on the first day of school at Craig County High School.
“Thomas said it was the best first day of school ever,” said coach Boyer.
The Rockets will be back on the links today, Aug. 19, for a match at the Castle Rock course, hosted by Narrows. Aubrey Keffer is expected to join the four boys for this match.
