Craig County Extension in cooperation with Mountain Castle Soil & Water Conservation Service, and Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation Service sponsored a farm tour of two Craig County farms on Tuesday Sept. 30.
The tour focused on conservation practices on the Graylen Alley Farm and The Charlie Barnes Farm respectively. Forty participants from Criag and Botetourt Counties enjoyed beautiful weather as they viewed conservation practices which included controlled grazing, pasture watering systems, stream bank protection, and stock piling fescue.
The host farmers discussed with the participants how the various agencies were involved in developing the conservation plans. Roy Kiser-County Agriculture Extension Agent, Fred Givens-Mountain Castles Soil & Water Conservation District Chairman, Alvin Gthrie- Soil Conservation Service District Conservationist, and Fryda Powell-Agricultural Stabilization & Conservation County Executive Director, discussed how each agency assists farmers in conservation practices.
