Sounds of Liberty Celebrates Nation’s Founding on Flag Day in Sinking Creek

More than 130 people attended Craig250's Sounds of Liberty celebration on Flag Day, June 14, at Highclere Hall in Sinking Creek. The outdoor garden party commemorating the nation's founding featured historical interpreters Patrick Henry Jolly, portraying his fifth-generation grandfather Patrick Henry, and Michael Henningsen portraying the Rev. Charles "the Fightin' Parson" Cummings. Guests also enjoyed performances by local musicians, bagpiper Burt Mitchell of Roanoke and reenactors from the Artillery Division of the Virginia 7th Regiment of the Continental Line, who demonstrated and fired a Revolutionary War-era cannon. Virginia Del. Terry Austin, chairman of the Virginia250 Commission, addressed attendees, and the Virginia Museum of History & Culture's "Give Me Liberty" exhibit was on display during the event.
