The Craig County School Board voted unanimously on Jan. 20 to adopt its budget schedule for fiscal year 2026-27, setting a series of public hearings and work sessions leading up to final budget approval in April.
The motion to approve the budget schedule was made by Faye Powers of the Potts Mountain District and seconded by Heather Matheney of the Craig Creek District. The board approved the schedule without opposition.
The budget process began Jan. 20 with a facilities walk-through at 4 p.m., followed by the board’s regular meeting at 5 p.m. in the Craig County High School auditorium. A budget public hearing was also held in conjunction with the meeting.
A budget work session is scheduled for Feb. 10 at 5:30 p.m. during the board’s regular meeting at the CCHS auditorium.
The board will hold another budget public hearing on March 10 at 5:30 p.m., also during its regular meeting at the high school auditorium.
The proposed school budget will then move to the county level, with a county budget work session scheduled for March 19 at 5:30 p.m. during a Craig County Board of Supervisors meeting at the Craig County Courthouse.
If needed, a joint budget work session between the School Board and the Board of Supervisors will be held April 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the courthouse.
Final adoption of the FY 2026-27 Craig County Public Schools budget is scheduled for April 14 at 5:30 p.m. during the School Board’s regular meeting at the CCHS auditorium.
