ROANOKE — The Local Office on Aging (LOA), which serves Craig County among other neighboring localities, will again offer free Medicare Open Enrollment counseling to help older adults and their families navigate plan options and coverage changes for 2026.
Certified counselors with the Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program (VICAP) will provide one-on-one guidance from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. Sessions will be held at a new off-site location at 4822 “J” Valley View Blvd. NW, beside K-Pot restaurant at Valley View Mall.
Counselors can help participants understand Medicare choices, compare plans, review coverage and costs, and explore prescription payment options. They also assist with enrollment and referrals to other resources.
To make the most of an appointment, attendees should bring their Medicare card, other insurance cards, and a current list of medications with dosages.
Appointments are available Monday through Thursday from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. The office will be closed on Fridays, federal holidays, and during Thanksgiving week (Nov. 24–27). Walk-ins are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and telephone counseling is also available.
To schedule an appointment, call the LOA main office at 540-345-0451. More information is available at www.loaa.org/events/open-enrollment.
