Author and Harrisonburg native David Driver will sign copies of his book “From Tidewater to the Shenandoah: Snapshots from Virginia’s Rich Baseball Legacy” before and during the Salem Red Sox game with Carolina on Friday, August 22.
Driver’s book includes chapters on the Salem Red Sox, Virginia Tech baseball and Billy Sample, the former Major League outfielder and broadcaster who grew up in Salem. There are also chapters about baseball in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, which has offices in Salem.
In high school Driver played for Turner Ashby High in Virginia, which earlier this year won the 1,000th game in school history. The Knights have won seven state titles and have sent three alums to the Major Leagues. Turner Ashby grad Brenan Hanifee, now with the Tigers, pitched in the Carolina League and is also featured in the book.
