WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W.Va.- Add pickleball to the list of major sporting events hosted on the iconic grounds of The Greenbrier. The Amateur Pickleball Association (APA) will bring The Greenbrier Gold Cup to America’s Resort August 23-24, 2025. It marks the first major pickleball event held at the resort, which has hosted professional golf, tennis, football, basketball and boxing, college football and basketball and amateur events from cornhole to archery.

The APA is the largest amateur player tour in the country, with 150 tournaments planned for 2025. The Greenbrier Gold Cup is open to players of all skill levels, with matches based on skill and age. Round-robin play will be followed by bracket play, with most players competing in 7-9 matches during the event. There will be doubles, mixed-doubles and singles divisions, and awards will be presented to participants finishing in the top three in their division.

Created by Joel Pritchard and Bill Bell in 1965, pickleball is now the fastest growing sport in the United States. The racquet sport, with elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, is played with a perforated, hollow plastic ball with a 34-inch net. A regulation court measures 20×44 feet.

Keeping up with the changing interests of its guests, The Greenbrier now features eight indoor pickleball courts inside its Tennis & Fitness Center. Center Court at Creekside, the resort’s 2,500-seat tennis stadium, will be converted for pickleball by July 1, and championship matches of The Greenbrier Gold Cup will be played inside the stadium, weather permitting.
