INTERSTATE 81 BRIDGE MAINTENANCE IN PULASKI COUNTY – On-ramps to Route 100 off I-81, northbound and southbound, will be closed from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., Sunday through Friday mornings. Message boards will provide updated schedule information.
INTERSTATE 81 LANE WIDENING EXIT 137 TO EXIT 141 – A $179 million project is widening I-81 from mile markers 136.6 to 141.8 in Roanoke County and Salem. Barrier wall is in place. Two lanes remain open in each direction with nighttime lane closures possible.
LANE CLOSURES: Alternating left/right lane and shoulder closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday.
FLAGGING OPERATIONS: Route 635 and Route 619 may have flagging.
UNEVEN PAVEMENT: Expect rough surfaces.
TRAFFIC SHIFTS: Watch for narrow ramps and quick merges at exit 140.
TRAFFIC SHIFTS ON WILDWOOD ROAD: Narrow lanes after exit 137; ramp narrows possible at Route 311.
WORK ZONE SPEED: 60 mph speed limit. Narrow spacing and lack of shoulders.
PROJECT INCLUDES: Six bridges replaced, two widened, sound barrier walls, exit 137 improvements, and lighting at exits 137, 140, 141. Completion in early 2026.
I-81 WIDENING FROM MILE MARKER 143 TO 151 – Survey and prep work is underway. Completion expected summer 2031.
Belle Haven Road: Possible daytime flagging.
LANE CLOSURES: Nighttime right/left lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
RAMPS: Narrowed ramps at exits 143, 146, and 150.
I-81 DECK OVERLAY AT PEAK CREEK (MILE MARKER 95.7) – Deck overlay and bridge repair underway with nighttime lane closures, Sunday night to Friday morning.
Southbound: Lane closures 7 p.m. to 10 a.m.
Northbound: Lane closures 6 p.m. to 9 a.m.
Alternating closures from mile marker 96 to 94. Completion summer 2025.
I-81 NORTHBOUND AT EXIT 105 NEW RIVER BRIDGE REPLACEMENT – Traffic shifted to new bridge at Montgomery/Pulaski County line.
LANE CLOSURES: 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. near mile markers 104–106.
ROUTE 605: Alternating lane closures and flagging under the bridge.
SLOW ROLLS: Possible between mile markers 98–109. Completion fall 2025.
I-81 BRIDGE DECK REPAIRS – From mile markers 170 to 89, nighttime bridge deck repairs will require left/right lane closures, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
INTERSTATE 581
I-581 PATCHING OPERATIONS – Northbound and southbound patching, Sunday through Thursday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
ORANGE AVENUE OFF RAMP SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS – Expect shoulder closures, narrow ramps, and nighttime lane closures near the Orange Avenue off ramp on I-581.
INTERSTATE 77 (CARROLL COUNTY)
I-77 PAVING & PATCHING OPERATIONS – Northbound and southbound, Monday through Friday, 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. lane closures.
I-77 BRIDGE DECK REPAIRS – Paving operations northbound and southbound, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Deck overlays from 8.78 miles north of the NC line to 6.24 miles south of Route 58.
Lane closures on Route 148 below the bridge. Completion fall 2025.
ROANOKE COUNTY
ROUTE 622 (BRADSHAW ROAD) CULVERT REPLACEMENT – Culvert work started April 21. Temporary signal manages alternating traffic. Completion expected August 2025.
ROUTE 220/ROUTE 419 DIVERGING DIAMOND INTERCHANGE – Multiple intersection modifications on Route 220 and Route 419 are ongoing. Completion expected fall 2028.
ROUTE 220 AT SOUTHERN HILLS & VALLEY AVENUE – Construction underway with nighttime lane closures, Sunday to Friday, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Daytime shoulder closures possible.

BOTETOURT COUNTY
ROUTE 723 (BRICK YARD ROAD) CULVERT REPLACEMENT – Closure scheduled June 5–8. Pedestrian bridge and vehicle staging area provided.
ROUTE 622 (DAGGER SPRINGS ROAD) EXTENDED CLOSURE – Closed for drainage, culvert, and slope work. Completion August 2025.
ROUTE 220 & INTERNATIONAL PARKWAY/ASHLEY WAY INTERSECTION – RCUT conversion nearing completion. Lane closures and new turn lane configurations underway. Estimated completion summer 2025.
CRAIG BOTETOURT SCENIC TRAIL – Brush cutting and stabilization continue. VDOT to hold public hearings in summer.
CARROLL COUNTY
ROUTE 620 SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS – Flagging possible near Route 707. Completion June 2025.
ROUTE 764 (PANTHER CREEK ROAD) BRIDGE REPLACEMENT – Closed for bridge replacement over Greasy Creek. Detour in place. Completion September 2025.
CRAIG COUNTY
CRAIG BOTETOURT SCENIC TRAIL – Maintenance and data collection ongoing. Public hearings planned.
FLOYD COUNTY
ROUTE 221 (EAST LOCUST STREET) UTILITY WORK – Overnight work, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Flagging and single-lane traffic.
KID’S FISHING DAY – Sunday, May 11, on Thunderstruck Road. Expect delays and increased traffic.
ROUTE 712 (HOPE ROAD) SURFACE TREATMENT – Single-lane closures and flagging. Detour in place May 5–9. Completion summer 2025.
FRANKLIN COUNTY
BRICK CHURCH ROAD CONNECTOR CONSTRUCTION – Road closed east of Route 696. Use detour via Pleasant Breeze Drive. Temporary signal in place. Project completion expected by end of 2025.
BEDFORD COUNTY
ROUTE 666 BRIDGE REPAIRS – Road to close August 2025. Completion expected summer 2026.
GILES COUNTY
ROUTE 778 (APACHE ROAD) BRIDGE REPLACEMENT OVER SINKING CREEK – Work underway.
