Buford Wayne Brown, 56, of New Castle, Va., passed away Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 at University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, Va., after a long and courageous battle with heart issues.

He was preceded in death by his father, Buford Brown, Houston, Texas and mother Betty Elizabeth Hogan Simmons Brown of Bedford, Va.; brother, Raymond Simmons (Mary) of Conroe, Texas.

Left to cherish his memory is his son Augustus McCrae Brown (Kristen); granddaughters Marley Grace Brown and Rylee Mae Brown, New Castle, Va.; his sisters Lillian Pugh (Charlie) Roanoke, Va.; Brenda Haygood (Floyd) Catawba, Va.; Vickie Smith (Paul) Catawba, Va. and Arlene Webb (Gary) New Castle, Va.; numerous nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind his best friend, Joey Mayo, girlfriend Missy Hewitt, and forever friend and ex-wife Beverly Brown.

Wayne was a graduate of New Castle High School and was a business man owning and operating BUFORD’S BBQ, INC., sharing his love of some the best smoked pulled pork, chicken, ribs and tenderloin around. He could always be found in New Castle with his big red food truck.

Wayne had a love for music that shined through his voice and guitar, sharing many a day/night picking with his son and friends.

Wayne loved his family, friends and community dearly.  He will be remembered lovingly for his generous spirit and entertaining sense of humor and always at the ready to help a loved one or friend.

Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church, 40 Boyd Ave, New Castle, VA 24127 Saturday May 17, 2025 at 11:00am; officiated by Pastor Kevin Altizer.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Heart Association in his memory.
