The Craig County track team joined the Three Rivers District schools for a big meet at Glenvar High School last Wednesday and the Rockets held their own.
“We were very fortunate to have been invited to join the Three Rivers District meet at Glenvar High School,” said Craig coach Jayke Dowdy. “There was a lot of still competition, obviously, when competing against the likes of Glenvar, Radford, Alleghany, James River, Patrick County and Carroll County. Our young kids more than held their own.”
Rocket freshmen had a big day. Bradyn Dunbar had a top 10 finish in the 200m, taking seventh in 24.81, and he was also 11th in the 100. Freshman Dylan Sarver was 10th in the 400 in 59.30 and another freshman, Bentley Smith, cleared 5’2” in the high jump to finish fifth. Freshman Jeremiah Fowler was 10th in the shot put.
Robert Eakin was sixth in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles with a time of 20.18 in the 110s and 50.3 in the low hurdles. Casey Hutchinson was eighth in the 300 hurdles.
Noah Paxton took fourth place in the discus at 122’2” and Caleb Fields was 10th. Carter Calfee was 13th in the 100 meters and the Rockets’ 4×100 team finished fifth in 48.46.
