The Craig County baseball team will be looking to pick up their first win when they play two home games this week. The Rockets are scheduled to host Narrows on Tuesday and Giles on Thursday in New Castle.
Craig comes into the week at 0-5 after losing a Pioneer District game to Bath County in New Castle last week. The visiting Chargers took a 7-3 win.
“Our bats went cold,” said coach Jaime Mick. “We struck out way too many times to be able to win this game.”
Senior Jaycob Wolfe was on base three times for Craig with a hit and two walks. He also pitched two innings and didn’t allow an earned run.
Mason Huffman had a double and scored a run. Hunter Sowers had an RBI hit and pitched four innings, striking out seven while allowing four earned runs.
“We continue to improve but are lacking in new areas,” said Mick. “Pitching kept us in it, only allowing four earned runs, but a couple errors set us back on top of leaving too many runners on base.”
The Rockets had a game with Parry McCluer rained out last Thursday. Next Tuesday, April 22nd, the Rockets are at Eastern Montgomery for a Pioneer District game.
