RiverStreet Networks will be a name to know in the coming months. The company has acquired the Virginia TDS service area and intends to expand fiber in the region. Already serving other Virginia localities, RiverStreet is committed to upgrading what’s available in Craig County.
At the recent Board of Supervisors meeting, RiverStreet offered the board a comprehensive presentation about the business, maps of existing and anticipated infrastructure, and potential funding options for Craig County. The draft Letter of Support for BEAD (Broadband Equity Access and Deployment Program) was adopted by the board.
“As you are aware, the County continues to work to address gaps in broadband access. Many of our residents still lack reliable high-speed internet, which is essential for education, economic development, and overall quality of life. The BEAD funding would enable RiverStreet to expand their services and address this critical need in our community and the rural portions of Virginia,” states Board Chair, Jesse Spence in the letter of support.
Funding for this and other essential programs are currently being held back by the new federal administration. Watching for which programs will remain accessible will be decided in the coming months. RiverStreet will be sending letters to existing customers with notice of the change, options for services and other community information in the weeks ahead.
