To make a long story short, Frances Marie Looney, affectionately known as “Mammam”, 73, of Newport, VA, went to be with the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2025. She was born on June 26, 1951, to the late Richter Wright and Mary Beckner Devinney. Mammam was a sassy, outspoken woman who loved to sew, go antique shopping, read her romance novels, and sit at the dining room table with family and friends. Her grandbabies were her pride and joy, and she loved to make sure they stayed in line. Even more than that, she loved her husband of 56 years, and the life they created together.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her stepfather, Gilbert Devinney; brothers, Nils Wright and Daniel “Boone” Wright; granddaughter, Heather Cross.
Left to cherish her memory include her husband, Larry Looney; children, Dwayne Looney (Kay), Marcy Cross (John), Shannon Estes, Scott Looney (Ashley), Ashtyn Looney (Bryan); grandchildren, Ross Fisher (Taylor), Summer Duncan (Ryne), Derek Fisher, Britttany Fisher, Desirae Childers (Timothy), Jacob Looney (Stephanie), Will Looney (Sierra), Hannah Fitzgerald-Fisher, Alex Fitzgerald, and Cameron Rose, Justina Nelson (Chad); brother, Ernie Wright (Sharon); along with several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of Life was held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Paitsel Funeral Home in New Castle, VA, with Pastor Lee Looney. Friends visited with the family from 2 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.
