Kellie Stevens was recognized as Craig County Public Schools’ August Employee of the Month during the Craig County School Board’s Sept. 8 meeting.
Stevens was recognized for her leadership and initiative in helping revamp and strengthen the school division’s house system, an effort intended to improve school culture, student belonging and staff engagement.
According to the recognition, Stevens brought together and led a team in redesigning the program for students and schools.
She also stepped forward to complete a required practice requirement so she could personally teach a course when scheduling challenges made it difficult to fit the class into the existing staffing schedule.
The board praised Stevens’ willingness to identify a need, develop a vision and take action.
Her efforts were described as an example of servant leadership and a demonstration that innovation can begin with someone recognizing that an initiative is important and being willing to make it happen.
“Miss Stevens, thank you for your leadership, initiative, courage, and unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for both our staff and students,” the recognition stated.
