The Craig County golfers hosted the Pioneer District on a hot day in Roanoke County last week and carded a 217. The district golfers played a nine-hole match at Craig’s home course, the Hanging Rock Golf Club.
Craig freshman Ryan Boyer finished second among 25 total golfers with a score of 45, one shot behind medalist Atticus Stauffer, a sophomore from Bath County. Thomas Boyer was sixth overall with a 50 and also scoring for the Rockets were Coleton Wolfe and Easton Wright, who both carded 61. Cam Hanes, Craig’s newest golfer, shot a 69.
Bath County had the low team score with a four player total of 199, followed by Eastern Montgomery at 211. Craig was next at 217 and Narrows came in at 223.
The final Pioneer District match is scheduled for today at the Blacksburg Municipal Course. “The Hill” is a nine-hole course and East Mont is the host.
The Pioneer District tournament will also be held at Blacksburg Municipal on Sept. 23. It will be an 18-hole event with the golfers playing the nine hole course twice.
