Members of the community gathered on the Craig County Courthouse lawn for a 10 a.m. commemorative service on Memorial Day that featured the ringing of the courthouse bell, presentation of the colors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4491, an invocation by Pastor Kenny Davis, and the Pledge of Allegiance led by the Craig Valley Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Alyssa Schulke and members of the Craig County High School choir performed the national anthem and patriotic selections, while DAR members shared readings titled “Voices Across 250 Years.” The ceremony concluded with the playing of taps and a closing prayer by New Castle Mayor Lenny MacDonald.
