The Craig County softball team will be home today, Wednesday, to host Pioneer District rival Parry McCluer. Game time is 5 pm on the field behind the high school.
The Rockets had just one game last week, a 15-0 loss to Eastern Montgomery in New Castle. The visiting Mustangs stroked 13 hits in the win and the Rockets struggled in the field behind pitcher Kammie Fisher, who struck out five.
“Defense absolutely killed us,” said Rockets’ coach Elaina Wolfe-Carper. “Quite a few of those hits should have been fielded for an out. And, we had errors that just piled on top of one another. The girls did get the bat on the ball against a solid pitcher for East Mont, but their team made the basic plays.”
Daileigh Donithan led the Rocket offense, going two-for-two.
“Losses like this one are the most frustrating,” said Wolfe-Carper. “I see the potential that this group has, but they’ve got to keep focused and get more consistent.”
Craig was at Bland Monday but results were too late for publication. Next Tuesday, April 23rd, the girls will host Narrows.
