Hearts were joined together in memory of a wonderful worker and friend on May 9 at the Craig County Child Care Center as they planted a Yoshino cherry tree in memory of Christie Scott.

“Christie was a dedicated teacher at the Craig County Child Care Center from January 21, 2002, until her battle with cancer began in 2021,” Director Teresa Oliver shared. “Christie served as the infant teacher from 2002 until 2016. She moved to the older three- and four-years old children, where she taught until August 2021.”

While employed at the Craig County Child Care Center she attended VWCC to obtain her associates degree in early childhood education. She also completed CLASS training to become an Observer through the Virginia Quality Program.

“She was a mentor to new teaching staff and a beloved friend to all,” Oliver said. “She was deeply loved by all the students, parents and staff at the center and we proud to honor her work and dedication to the children and families of Craig County with the beautiful tree that will remind us daily of the beauty that she shared with us all.”

Oliver added that they would also like to thank Sue Bostic for the donation in Christie’s memory for helping fund this project.
