Alex Light, a standout lineman at the University of Richmond, has signed a free agent contract to try out for the Green Bay Packers of the National Football League.
Alex is the grandson of Jennifer Crawford and the late Roger Crawford of New Castle. He’s the son of Kelly and Aubrie Light. Kelly(Crawford) Light grew up in New Castle.
Light was a standout athlete in Salem, competing on state contending football teams and also playing on a state basketball championship team. He went on to the University of Richmond, where he was a three year starter on the line at multiple positions.
Light anchored an offensive line that helped the Spiders lead the CAA in passing yards (341.0 ypg) and total offense (452.7 ypg) in 2018. He finished his career making 38 consecutive starts and played two positions for Richmond this year. He was named third team FCS All-American by the Phil Steele Publications, which produces the annual preseason magazine Phil Steele’s College Football Preview.
