The Eastern Montgomery scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a win over Craig County in high school baseball last week. The Mustangs won 8-7 on their home field.
Craig led for much of the game, as the two teams went back and forth exchanging the lead. The Rockets got a solo home run from Jake Robertson and scored four times with two outs in the top of the fifth before East Mont rallied for the win.
The winning run came with two outs and two on in the bottom of the seventh. A high pitch by Jesse Brizendine wasn’t handled and the winning run raced home.
Dakota Henderson started the game on the mound for the Rockets and pitched the first four innings, striking out nine. Brizendine fanned four over the final two and two-thirds frames but was saddled with the loss on the unearned run.
Offensively, Kevin Swingle had two hits for Craig. Robertson had the home run and Henderson drove in two runs.
With the loss Craig dropped to 0-3 on the season. The Rockets were scheduled to play at Narrows on Tuesday but rain was in the forecast.
Craig has a home game on Thursday at 5:30 pm against Covington. Next Tuesday, May 1, the Rockets are scheduled to play two at Bath County.
