Tierrney Zysk and Maddy Oliver hit home runs as the Craig County softball team hammered Eastern Montgomery in softball last week. The Rockets took a 14-6 win in Elliston.

Zysk has hit many home runs in her four years as a Craig County firstbaseman but Oliver’s home run was her first on the varsity team. Keiley Dudding and Kaylee Pauley had two hits apiece as the Craig offense proved to be too much for the Mustangs to handle.

“We had a lot of hits, they were pretty much spread around,” said Craig coach Elaina Wolfe-Carper.

Maggie Huffman, Hannah Taylor and Pauley split time on the mound for the Rockets, with Huffman picking up the win. The game was called early due to darkness but the Rockets had the game well in hand at that point.

With the win Craig improved to 2-1 on the season. The Rockets were scheduled to play a doubleheader at James Monroe on Monday, but that was cancelled.

“They had to get in some district games and had to use Monday to reschedule,” said Wolfe-Carper. “We’ll probably only play 10 regular season games this season with all the rainouts and postponements.”

The Rockets were scheduled to play at Narrows on Tuesday, but rain was in the forecast again. On Thursday Covington is scheduled to come here for a 5:30 pm Pioneer District matchup, and next Tuesday the Rockets have a doubleheader scheduled at Bath County.
