The Craig County volleyball team had a big week as the Rockets won three matches in a row. The girls won at Eastern Montgomery, then swept a doubleheader at Highland County.

At East Mont Craig won in three sets, 25-11, 25-20 and 25-13. Taylor Sloss had 22 assists and Jaci McAlwee had 11 kills. Nicole Austin had five kills, four aces and three blocks and Haleigh Smith served up eight aces.

“We played well from start to finish,” said coach Geoff Boyer.

On Thursday night in Hot Springs the Rockets played host Highland in a doubleheader, with two best-of-three matches. The Rockets didn’t need to go to the third set in either match, winning 25-6, 25-10 in the opener and 25-11, 25-16 in the nightcap.

Sloss had a combined 31 assists at Highland while McAlwee had 11 kills and six aces. Austin had seven kills and five aces, Autumn Hutchison had four kills and five aces and Smith had another big serving night with a dozen aces.

“Haleigh has a flat jump serve that’s hard to handle,” said Boyer.

Hannah Taylor and Eva Myers had two aces each as the Rams had a hard time handling Craig’s serves.

The Rockets improved to 4-11 with the two wins and are were scheduled to play at Narrows Tuesday for their 12th straight match outside Craig County. This Thursday they’re finally back home to host Covington, and next week they host Parry McCluer on Monday and Bath County on Tuesday.
