The Craig County football team had a week off to get a little better, both physically and mentally, last Friday. This week they return with a tough opponent.

The Rockets will play host to Parry McCluer this Friday night in a Pioneer District matchup. The Blues are just 1-4 so far but don’t let that fool you. They’re a good football team.

“They’re big, fast and strong,” said Craig County coach Mark Harrison. “They’re big up front, big and fast. We’re in for a fight this week.”

Craig is still looking for a win at the midway point of the season. The off week helped the Rockets to get a little healthier, as both quarterbacks were banged up. Dalton McPherson should be good to go after injuring his quad in the game against Twin Valley but Dakota Henderson will be a game time decision with an ankle sprain.

“We don’t want Dakota to go until we know he’s ready,” said Harrison. “That’s the kind of injury that could linger on if we bring him back too soon.”

Craig worked on some fundamentals during the week off. This week they’ll concentrate on Parry McCluer.

“Last week we worked on technique,” said Harrison. “We didn’t get Parry McCluer’s film until the weekend. They wouldn’t exchange with us last week.”

The Craig County Middle School team won their first game of the season last week, defeating Central Academy, 32-14. The MS Rockets are at Parry McCluer Thursday.
