The Craig County Board of Supervisors approved a $4,709.79 salary increase for Clerk of Courts Sharon Oliver following a request related to compensation within her office last month.
Oliver requested the increase to help with compensation in her office for her master deputy, who has worked for the county for 25 years.
According to information presented to supervisors, the clerk of courts is willing to pay for the increase from the office’s account and does not want the additional compensation to affect employees’ baseline salaries.
Mr. Collins explained that the pay increase is not guaranteed from year to year.
Mr. Spence expressed concern that the county could eventually have to pay for the increase and questioned whether it would need to be approved annually.
Mr. Bailey made the motion to approve the salary increase from the clerk of courts’ account. Mr. Oliver agreed, according to the meeting information, and Mr. Labiosa seconded the motion.
The measure passed unanimously, with Labiosa, Lipes, Christian, Bailey and Spence voting in favor.
