Saturday was a big day for the Roanoke College and Virginia Tech football teams as both picked up wins on their home fields. In Salem, the Maroons defeated Greensboro College, 28-14, to improve to 2-0 on the young season. Here coach Bryan Stinespring leads the team onto the field at Salem Stadium and quarterback Linwood Johnson picks up some big yards. In Blacksburg the Hokies also made it 2-0 with a 44-21 win over in-state rival Old Dominion at Lane Stadium. Tight end Luke Reynolds caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer, including this grab over a Monarch defender.
Que’Sean Brown couldn’t quite stretch the ball to the end zone, but the Hokies scored on the ensuing play in the big win. The Maroons are off this week before traveling to Washington, D.C. on September 26 to play Gallaudet University. Virginia Tech is at Maryland this Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
