Josie Dillon hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning as the Craig County softball team defeated Bath County to remain undefeated. The Rockets took a 3-1 win at Bath Friday, Aug. 28.
Craig and Bath battled to a scoreless tie through six innings, but the host Chargers were done in by poor fielding in the seventh. Two Rockets reached base by error, setting the stage for Dillon. Her long homer cleared the bases as she easily scored for a three-run homer.
“We played on the football field, but it would have easily been over the fence in our field,” said Rocket Coach Debbie Sames. “It was a shot.”
The Chargers made it interesting when they scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Craig held on to win.
Dillon also pitched, striking out 11 in a three-hit effort. Jennifer Miller had a double for the Rockets.
The win improved Craig’s record to 9-0 overall. That was the first district game for Craig, as last week’s game with James River was postponed due to rain.
The Rockets were home against Highland Tuesday, but results were too late for publication. On Thursday the girls go to Covington, and next Tuesday Parry McCluer comes here.
