The Craig County golf team will have their first home match of the season today when the Rockets hit the links at the Hanging Rock Golf Club. The first tee-off time is scheduled for 5 pm.
All four Pioneer District schools that have golf teams are expected to attend the match, Bath County, Eastern Montgomery, Narrows and the host Rockets. Those same four teams competed at the Castle Rock course last week, hosted by Narrows.
Bath County had the low score at Castle Rock with a four-player 200 over nine holes as the teams played the “back nine.” East Mont shot 226, Craig came in at 245 and Narrows only had three players so the Green Wave did not have a team score.
Craig County freshman twins Ryan and Thomas Boyer finished sixth and seventh on the day. Ryan shot 52 and Thomas was one stroke behind with a 53 on the par 36 course. Coleton Wolfe had a 69, Aubrey Keffer came in at 71 and the Rockets’ newest golfer, Cameron Hanes, had a 72 in his first match. Easton Wright was ill and did not play.
“We now have six golfers so that’s a full team,” said coach Geoff Boyer. “We’re looking forward to having everyone play at our home match.”
