Phillip Matthews, a kind and selfless soul, was born on September 23, 1965, in Roanoke, Virginia. He departed this world unexpectedly at his home on July 16, 2026, at the age of 60. Phillip’s life was a testament to generosity and compassion, and he will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.From a young age, Phillip demonstrated a heart bigger than his brain, a phrase that perfectly encapsulates his boundless empathy and selflessness. He was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need, regardless of their circumstances, and he did so with genuine warmth and sincerity. His acts of kindness were numerous and far-reaching, touching the lives of many and leaving a lasting impact on his community.Phillip was born to Neil and Shelia, who instilled in him the values of love and charity. Though he faced the loss of his father, Neil, stepfathers John Matthews and Kenneth Davis and his sister, Lynn McKee, Phillip’s spirit remained resilient and ever-dedicated to those he loved and those who needed him.
His mother, Shelia, survives him, holding dear the memories of her beloved son.He is also survived by his cherished son, Austin Matthews, who was the pride and joy of his life. The bond they shared was unbreakable and filled with love and laughter. Sisters, Ann Cox and Michelle Matthews, along with many stepbrothers and stepsisters, bonus kids Nathaniel, Max and Trinity, many nieces and nephews also mourn his passing, remembering him as someone who was always there with a comforting word or a helping hand.Phillip’s legacy of kindness and service to others will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. His unwavering commitment to helping others, even when he had little himself, is a lesson in true generosity and love for one’s fellow human beings.Phillip’s life was a shining example of how one person’s kindness and willingness to help can make the world a better place. As we say goodbye, we hold onto the lessons he taught us and strive to emulate his remarkable example of compassion.
