Craig Valley Baptist Church will distribute free backpacks filled with school supplies and other items during McCleary Elementary School’s back-to-school event on Aug. 10.
The backpack giveaway will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. at the school. The backpacks, available while supplies last, are intended for elementary school students. Children must be present with an adult to receive a backpack.
In addition to school supplies, the backpacks will include items such as gloves, mittens and snacks. Church officials encourage parents to review all snack items for potential allergens before allowing children to consume them.
The backpack distribution is part of Craig Valley Baptist Church’s ongoing outreach ministries serving students in New Castle and Craig County.
The church, located at 171 Salem Ave. in New Castle, also offers weekly Bible Buddies for children ages 3 through 12 and a youth group for students ages 12 through high school. Both programs meet Wednesdays beginning at 6 p.m., with dinner served at 6:30 p.m. and activities concluding at 8 p.m.
Craig Valley Baptist also operates a food pantry on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon.
Church officials said a winter coat distribution is planned for November, with additional details to be announced later.
