
Two Craig County athletes competed in the Virginia High School League state Class 1 track meet last week and Caleb Cregger finished 10th in the high jump. The meet was held at James Madison University in Harrisonburg.
Cregger, a junior, cleared 5’10” in the high jump event. The winning jump was 6’6” by Gideon Miear, a sophomore from Auburn High. Caleb has the Craig County school record at 6’0” with another year to go.
Craig’s Bradyn Dunbar competed in the 100 meters but did not make the final. Only the top nine advanced and the ninth place time was 11.36. The week prior Bradyn was third in the Region 1C meet with a time of 11.40.
Teamwise, the Auburn boys won the state championship with 106 points. Eastern Montgomery was second with 55, just one point more than third place Parry McCluer.
In the girls’ competition Cumberland High won the state championship with 60 points. Northampton took second with 51 and Auburn was third with 50.
