Vivian Luana Old Price (“Lu”), 78, of Blue Ridge, Virginia, went home to Jesus on May 26, 2026. She was a beloved matriarch who was born on February 26, 1948. She lived a life filled with faith, service, compassion, humor, and deep love for her family, friends, community, and country.

Lu was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Madison Old and Vivian Faye Whitlow Old; and her brothers, Robin Old and Dana Old.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Ariel Houston (Daniel); five beloved grandchildren, Hayleigh Hodnett (Justin), Hannah Houston, Heidi Mikos (Zachery), James Houston, and Harper Houston; one great-grandchild, Bentley Butler; and her brothers, Samuel Old, Patrick Old, and Marlon Old; many cousins, nieces, and a nephew. She is also survived by special family friends John and Vanessa Barker, along with their children, Karli, Lucas, Adalyn, and Alexander Barker, whom Lu lovingly considered adopted children and grandchildren.

All who knew Lu recognized her servant’s heart, genuine nature, and selflessness. Whether she was working hard on the family farm in New Castle during her childhood, studying at Radford before teaching middle school science in Roanoke City for 38 years, or faithfully serving in the food pantry ministry at Bonsack Baptist during her retirement years, she approached every part of her life with dedication, integrity, a real love for people, and a heaping scoop of humor and sarcasm. Lu quickly became a favorite to those she met because of her humble ability to take charge, make things fun, and let her faith shine for all to see. The Lord was the cornerstone of her life. She was also a dedicated patriot—never passing an American flag without saluting it or a veteran without thanking them for their service. She lived a life of redemption and would share with the world that anyone can be rescued from whatever troubles they face.

Her family and friends, though broken hearted, find comfort in knowing she is healed, at peace, and rejoicing in the presence of her Savior.

A visitation will be held on June 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Bonsack Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Chris Cadenhead officiating. Interment at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens will immediately follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the food pantry ministry at Bonsack Baptist Church, a ministry very close to Lu’s heart.

Her family would like to thank the many friends, church family members, coworkers, former students, and loved ones who blessed Lu throughout her life with friendship, love, and support.

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
