James Ernest Wingfield “Jim”, 83, of New Castle, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Wingfield; first wife, Linda Wingfield; brothers, Bill Wingfield (Darlene) and Robert Wingfield; sister-in-law Shirley Wingfield; daughter, Angela Wingfield; son, Robert McComas; special son-in-law, Jimmie Richmond; and great-grandson, Finley Lynch.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 27 years, Kathy Wingfield; daughters, Sam Richmond, Denise Hutson (Donny), Donna Lynch (Mark); grandchildren, Jimmy Lynch (Bailey), Amber Lynch (Jeff), Kate Richmond (Heidi), Kirby Sowers (Gary), Billy Richmond, and Robert McComas II; great-grandchildren, Lila, Vera, Milena, Kailee, Mikaila, Rachel, and Leon. Brother, Edward Wingfield; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He will also be missed by his beloved dog, Mikey.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Navy and retired from a long career at Norfolk Southern Railway. He was a hardworking man who enjoyed projects around the home and took pride in caring for his family whom he loved greatly. He also loved his country and above all else he loved God first.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends Saturday May 23rd at 2:00PM with the funeral to celebrate his life following at 3:30PM at Paitsel Funeral Home, 286 Main Street, New Castle, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, your local Samaritan House, and/or your local Angels of Assisi in Jim’s name.
