ROANOKE — Virginia Western Community College held its Commencement ceremony Friday, May 15, at the Berglund Center.
The ceremony began at 6:30 p.m. and honored graduates from the fall 2025 and spring and summer 2026 semesters. A total of 418 students attended, with 546 degrees and certificates awarded.
Laura Treanor presided over her first Commencement ceremony as president of Virginia Western. Treanor is the fifth person to serve as president in the college’s 60-year history.
Three Virginia Western students were selected to participate as speakers during Commencement events.
Maureen Arthur served as rehearsal speaker. She graduated with an Associate of Science degree in business administration.
Hagar Atef Youssef delivered the welcome. She graduated with an Associate of Science degree in science.
Demetrice Peerman-Forrest served as keynote speaker. She graduated with an Associate of Science degree in human services.
