The Craig County girls are looking to finish the softball regular season on a high note with three games at home in a week’s time. The Rockets were scheduled to host Bath County on Tuesday of this week, Northside today and Highland County next Monday, May 11.
Craig is 1-9 after dropping two Pioneer District games last week. Last Tuesday in Elliston host Eastern Montgomery took an 11-1 win over the Rockets. Craig jumped to an early lead when Rae Stamper drove in Daileigh Donithan in the first inning but that was all the offense the Rockets could muster.
“We improved defensively from the first time we played them but struggled on offense,” said coach Elaina Wolfe-Carper. “We just couldn’t string anything together.”
On Thursday in Buena Vista the girls fell to homestanding Parry McCluer, 13-2. Stamper and Jenna Boitnotte each had an RBI for the Rockets.
“We got the bat on the ball, but Parry had no errors to our 10,” said Wolfe-Carper. “This isn’t about a lack of skill. They make plays and have quality at bats in practice, but it’s just not carrying into the games. Hopefully we can clean things up this week and play the way I know they can.”
