The Craig County girls came oh so close to picking up their first softball win last week but fell one run shy in two Pioneer District games. The Rockets lost at Bath County, 4-3, and at Highland County, 9-8.
“We had a much more competitive week,” said Craig coach Elaina WolfeCarper. “I hope to carry the offensive momentum into this week and to tighten back up on defense.”
The Rockets had a good defensive game against Bath. Against Highland, the hitting picked up with all eight Craig runs being earned.
“That makes the loss that much more frustrating tough, because only three of Highland’s runs were earned,” said WolfeCarper. “It looked like we were going to make a comeback but there were too many careless defensive errors.”
The two losses dropped Craig to 0-7 on the season. The Rockets had a non-district game at Northside on Monday and on Thursday they have a district game at Narrows.
