The Craig County School Board approved the 2026-27 Perkins Career and Technical Education (CTE) Plan during its regular monthly meeting on April 14.
The action came under new business, with board members voting to approve the division’s Perkins Grant application for the upcoming school year. The motion to approve the grant was made by Simmonsville District representative and Vice Chair Darren Gilreath and seconded by Potts Mountain District representative Faye Powers.
Craig County Public Schools receives federal funding through the Perkins Grant to support its CTE programs. The funding is used to upgrade and replace equipment, offset student tuition costs for programs such as those offered through BTEC, support career exploration initiatives and cover the cost of credentialing exams for students completing CTE programs of study.
For the 2026-27 cycle, the total grant amount is $13,989.02. Of that total, $8,391.95 is allocated for purchased services, while $5,597.07 is designated for capital outlay and equipment.
The grant operates on a reimbursement basis and does not require a local funding match, according to school officials. The funding has been included in the division’s budget.
School leaders said the continued use of Perkins funding plays a key role in expanding opportunities for students to gain workforce-ready skills and industry-recognized credentials before graduation.
