William Robert Mitchell, Jr., better known as Billy around Craig County High School, will have a Court of Honor Sunday, May 1, at 4 p.m. at the Forks of Johns Creek Church.
At that time, Billy will be recognized for having earned the status of Eagle Scout, which was verified on March 22.
His Eagle project was making and placing signs on Virginia 311 and 42 directing motorists to the Forks of Johns Creek Church.
He is a dedicated scout. The son of Deidre and William Mitchel, Sr., he drives 82 miles round-trip to meeting each week at the Locust Grove Methodist Church in Salem. Billy is now an assistant scout master of Troop 352.
Billy, who turned 18 on March 28, spent two years in the Cub Scouts where he earned the arrow of light; seven years as a Boy Scout, earning 30 merit badges and various awards.
Billy moved to the county from the Glenvar area in 1990. He would like to get in touch with other Eagle Scouts in Craig County.
He is now a junior at CCHS. After graduating he wants to attend college and eventually become a high school teacher.
