The Craig County Board of Supervisors approved a $125,100 amendment to the county’s fiscal year 2025-26 budget during its Feb. 5 regular meeting, adding funding for the Field of Dreams Complex, juvenile detention boarding costs and building maintenance repairs.
The resolution, adopted unanimously as R26-09, increases county revenue by $125,100. Of that amount, $2,100 comes from additional funding received from the U.S. Forest Service for use of the Field of Dreams Complex as a helicopter landing pad during a forest fire response. The use was approved by the Field of Dreams Committee and the Craig County Economic Development Authority, which owns the property.
According to the resolution, the Economic Development Authority directed that the $2,100 be transferred to the Field of Dreams for related expenses. The funds were received through Craig County and appropriated under the county’s non-departmental budget.
The remaining $123,000 comes from the county’s fund balance and will cover two supplemental appropriations.
The largest portion, $103,000, was added to the Care of Prisoners Department to pay boarding fees to the Roanoke Valley Juvenile Detention Center for juveniles currently incarcerated and for anticipated costs through the end of the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026.
An additional $20,000 was appropriated to the county’s Maintenance of Properties budget for repairs and replacement after the line item was depleted by unexpected HVAC repairs. County officials said the additional funds will allow previously budgeted repairs to move forward.
The amended expenditures include $2,100 for Field of Dreams expenses, $103,000 for prisoner care costs and $20,000 for property maintenance repairs, matching the total revenue increase of $125,100.
Chair Jesse Spence called for the vote on the resolution. Carl Bailey made the motion, seconded by Vice Chair Keith Dunbar. Supervisors Jordan Labiosa, Jason Matyas, Keith Dunbar, Carl Bailey and Spence all voted in favor, and the measure passed unanimously.
