The Craig County Board of Supervisors approved a new policy recognizing volunteers who serve in the county’s emergency services programs during its January meeting.
During a recent meeting, Clerk to the Board Robert R. “Dan” Collins briefed supervisors on the Craig County Emergency Services Standard Administrative Policy for the Disbursement of County Recognition Funds to Volunteers. The policy establishes a formal way for the county to thank volunteers for their service to residents during emergencies.
Collins said the policy was developed with assistance from county officials Mr. Lipps and Mr. Humphries and is intended to acknowledge the contributions of volunteers who assist residents in times of need.
During discussion, Keith Dunbar, vice chair of the board, and Brian Lipes, supervisor for the Simmonsville District, each requested to abstain from the vote.
Board Chair Jesse Spence called for a motion. Jordan Labiosa, supervisor for the Craig City District, made the motion to approve the policy, which was seconded by Carl Bailey, supervisor for the Potts Mountain District.
The measure passed with the following vote: Labiosa, yes; Bailey, yes; Spence, yes; Lipes, abstain; and Dunbar, abstain.
In a separate action, supervisors approved funding for new equipment for the high school gym. Labiosa made a motion to allocate $15,000 from the county’s fund balance to purchase a piece of equipment for the gym. Spence seconded the motion.
The measure passed unanimously with the following vote: Labiosa, yes; Lipes, yes; Dunbar, yes; Bailey, yes; and Spence, yes.
