The Craig County School Board unanimously approved an update to its field trip policy during its Nov. 11 meeting, clarifying background check requirements for overnight trips.

The revision to Policy IICA-R specifies that any person chaperoning an overnight field trip must complete a full background check. School officials said the update was intended to clearly define expectations for overnight supervision and student safety.

No members of the public spoke during the public comment period on the policy change.

Vice Chair Darren Gilreath, representing the Simmonsville District, made the motion to approve the policy update. The motion was seconded by Walter Marsden of the New Castle District and passed unanimously.

The policy governs field trip guidelines for Craig County Public Schools, including chaperone requirements, medical notifications, transportation rules and student conduct expectations.
