The All-Region 1C football team was announced last week with Grayson County falling in the Class 1 state semifinal game. Grayson, who eliminated Craig in the region semifinal, is a Region 1C team and the all-region team could not be announced until all the 1C teams were eliminated.
The Rockets filled six positions on the All-Region team, which is surely an all-time high for Craig County High School. On defense Noah Paxton, Carter Calfee, Carter Price and Caleb Cregger all made the first team while on offense Price and Calfee were selected.
Craig also has several players make the All-Region 1C second team. Jerry Smith, Jeremiah Fowler and Cregger were named to the second team offense and Tristan Dooley was a second team selection on defense.
The Class 1 state championship will be held at Salem Stadium this Saturday at 5 pm when Rye Cove meets Rappahannock. Both teams won close semifinals, as Rye Cove beat Grayson County, 7-6, and Rappahannock pulled out a 38-32 win over Buffalo Gap.
The Class 2 championship will also be at Salem Stadium Saturday. That will match Glenvar against Strasburg at 11:30 am.
