The Craig County volleyball season came to an end with a loss in the first round of the Pioneer District tournament last week. The Rockets lost in three sets at Bath County and were eliminated from the tourney.

With the loss the Rockets ended the season with a 4-15 overall record and a 2-9 record in district matches. Coaches voted for All-District players and two Rockets were selected. Freshman Emily Smith made the second team and junior Annalese Zimmerman was deemed Honorable Mention.

“This season we finished fifth in the district, not where we wanted to be but the girls showed significant improvement throughout the season,” said coach Suzanne Crawford.

“Hopefully the Lady Rockets will be able to put in some work during the off-season. We need to keep playing during open gyms to ensure the skills we are learning and beginning to improve are practiced in the off-season, so we can continue building on what we have already learned.”

Craig will graduate seniors Cheyanne Bell, Makenzie Lucas, Jenna Boitnotte, Daileigh Donithan and Brook Wright.

“We lose five seniors this season, and that’s going to be hard,” said Crawford. “These seniors brought heart and leadership to our team, and they will be greatly missed.”
